Randolph Retiree Activities Office

The Retiree Activities Office (RAO) is the base level component of the Air Force Retiree Council. The RAO at Randolph Air Force Base provides a liaison between the active duty elements at Randolph and the retiree communities of all branches of the armed forces. The RAO assists retirees by providing information and services, which include CRCS applications and informational booklets for senior citizens and retirees.

The Randolph Retiree Activities Office is located with the Military Personnel Flight in Pitsenbarger Hall, Bldg 399, Room 104, located on the first floor of the East hallway. The RAO is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m; e-mail us at rao.randolph@us.af.mil

Vehicle Registration Requirements

The Retiree Activities Office no longer issues vehicle decals.

Drivers with a valid Department of Defense identification card, but who do not have a DoD decal on their vehicle are granted access at Randolph Air Force Base's entry control points by presenting the DoD card.

tabSafe Driving Program 
Safe Driving Program

The AARP Safe Driving Program, formerly ALIVE 55, is a four-hour classroom refresher course for experienced motorists age 50 and up, and their family members. 

The course addresses the physical changes that can affect your driving ability and behavior, and ways to compensate for these changes. The number "55" in the courses former name refers to the average age when these physical changes begin to impact a person's driving ability.

Course dates for 2012 are: 26 Jan. 29 Mar, 24 May, 26 Jul, 27 Sep and 24 Oct. Classes are held at the Chapel Annex, Bldg 103, behind Chapel 1.

If you are interested in attending one of the courses please call, (210) 652-6880. There is a $12 charge per person for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Fees are collected at the beginning of the first class. We can only accept checks or money orders please.

Reporting a Retiree Death

Surviving family members of retired Air Force personnel residing in the United States may report the death of a member, and receive personal assistance in applying for eligible benefits on their behalf by contacting:
· The Casualty Assistance Representative (CAR) at the nearest Air Force Base Military Personnel Flight, Customer Service
· Randolph's CAR phone number is 210-652-2104
· Headquarters, Air Force Personnel Center toll-free at 1-877-353-6807. This system will connect your phone call directly to the CAR that will assist you. Voice mail is available after duty hours. Family members leaving a message will be called back the next duty day
· DFAS-Cleveland using their toll-free number 1-800-269-5170
· The nearest US embassy or Consulate for overseas families
NOTE: If telephone notification is impossible, you may send the information to HQ AFPC/DPWCS, 550 C Street West, Suite 14, Randolph AFB, TX 78150-4716. Enclose a copy of the death certificate and the information below. This information will be forwarded to the CAR nearest you for them to assist you.
· Please have the following information available when making notification:
· Retiree's full name, grade, Social Security number, date of retirement
· Date and place (city and state) of death
· Cause (layman's terms) of death name, relationship, phone number, and address of the next of kin
· Date and place of funeral, if known (General officers only)

UPDATE to ID Card Procedures
502nd ABW/JBSA Changes for CAC/ID Cards

DBIDS Registration
Retirees must register their retiree military identification cards with the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) in order to gain access to Air Force installations. DBIDS will be gradually integrated into base access protocols.
To register, retirees must bring their DoD-issued ID cards to the Pass & ID Office located in Military Personnel Flight (MPF), located in Pitsenbarger Hall, Bldg 399. For more information, call 210-652-2276.

Legal Assistance
Randolph's Legal Office offers assistance Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For assistance with wills, the retiree needs their ID card and a will worksheet, which can be located at http://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil. The walk-in hours for will assistance are every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

By calling (800) 558-1404, retirees and spouses can stay Informed using the new easy-to-use, menu-driven service. Callers can select different topics compiled from various electronic news sources. Current topics include: pay and annuity matters, medical and health care, and other benefits and entitlements.

RAO needs volunteers
New studies provide information and more evidence that participating in volunteer activities may add years to an older person's life.
The studies say that in many cases, volunteering can improve health outcomes for retirees by expanding their social networks, increasing their access to resources and improving their sense of self-worth.
Our office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
