Top Tips from the Randolph Energy Management Office
1. Put TVs and DVD on a power strip and turn them off; they still consume energy on idle
2. If your slow cooking for hours there is no need to preheat oven
3. Use efficient LED holiday lights, maybe even solar powered lights - they save energy and may be cheaper than you think
4. Walk or ride a bike to work; this will save energy, keep you fit and save you money
5. Water before 1000 and after 1800
6. Unplug appliances like microwaves and TVs when not in use for extended periods
7. Drive sensibly. Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas
8. Ceiling fans can help you stay cool; if you set your thermostat at 79 instead of 78 degrees you can save 3%; if you set it at 80 you can save 8%
9. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth; this saves 4 gallons a minute
10. Close the blinds and curtains, this will help insulate your home or office
11. Use Compact Fluorescent Bulbs; this saves up to 75 % compared to regular incandescent
12. Pay attention to lights in your office or conference room, turn them off when not in use
